Amir Farid (Piano), Phil Carroll (Accordion), Aaron Barnden (Violin), Sarah Morse (Cello), William Hewer (Cello) and Ruth Roshan (Vocals, Mandolin); with special guest Nick Tsiavos on Bass. In Tango Noir's second all original album, "Darling ... Keep it to Yourself", Ruth uses the rhythms of the cabaret, the Tango, the Habanera, the Waltz, Ruth successfully infuses the album with an atmosphere of 1930s Berlin to create music which is new and nostalgic at the same time. It is a very listenable and beautiful album. Lush arrangements enhance the style, providing a bittersweet flavour when backing her acerbic lyrics. With cabaret undergoing a revival at present, Ruth is an artist who perfectly captures the mood of that style and era on this album. HARBOURSIDE CONCERT SERIES |

Jane Darcey CD Launch Live performance of solo and ensemble music which I have written now available on a CD The music will be played by myself, two guitar ensembles made up of my students; The Helena College Guitar Quintet (HQ) and Synchronicity (formed from Suzuki students, now in Years 10 - 12). My son Beren Scott will be playing 2 cello and guitar duets, and the piano trio he plays in (The Aida Piano Trio) will be guest artists, playing Mendelssohn to finish the concert. The solo music is from about Gde 4 AMEB level, through to concert standard; the Ensemble music suitable for a Senior High Ensemble - my groups have played all of it between them. The style is eclectic - based in tonality with a touch of jazz, South America and Baroque (Pelicans in Flight is a fugato, and Waterlilies has a Baroque Adagio feel). I write some about feelings (Farewell), some dances (Dance Rondo, Vals Triste Rondo) and a lot about nature . They say that I can write "mind worms" - tunes that stick in the head. I think that some of this music could be useful repertoire to other guitar teachers and players, and some of it will be available as sheet music at the concert. I have had positive feedback from Tim Kain, Jonathan Paget, Paul Svoboda and Professor Tunley - and John Casey told Chris that he liked my Dance Rondo. John Ralph is using some of it with his ensembles. |

Duncan Gardiner with Emily Clements (flute) and Irina Vasileva-Thoo (piano) The music of Spain has an undeniably evocative essence about it whether it’s the fire of flamenco or the passion of folk and art song. Guitarist Duncan Gardiner together present you with a veritable feast of Spanish music in true tapas style! Duncan Gardiner's web site The French have been intrigued by exotic cultures for some time now, especially in the late 19th and early 20th centuries when they were positively obsessed with the sounds, flavours and expressions of Spanish music. Together they will perform dazzling operatic highlights from Bizet’s Carmen, impressions of a fragrant Andalucían night (Erik Marchelie), a touch of tango (okay, okay – we all know tango isn’t actually Spanish!) plus flamenco inspired works for guitar and piano. Coupled with a selection of more contemporary works you are invited to hear the sounds of Spain through the ears of the French! |

Join some of Australia’s leading musicians in three outstanding ensembles performing in one of Perth’s newest, most intimate live music venues. Claire Bonner's web page Storm-stricken lovers; a monster-infested grotto; and a Grande Overture penned by a pimp – feel an opera company coming on? Or perhaps just a 19th century guitar (after all this is the cosy and intimate Ellington we’re talking about!) |
Talented young Tasmanian guitarist and WAAPA graduate Claire Bonner returns once more to Chamber Jam at the Ellington, bringing her beloved 1870s guitar and a brand new collection of tunes and tales by guitar greats Mauro Giuliani and Ferdinand Carulli. This will be one of Claire’s last performances in Perth before she moves to Milan later this year to pursue further study of the 19th century guitar repertoire and techniques. Also on the programme are Citrine (Lara Vocisano and Bec Kossen), Perth’s newest Piano/Vocal Duo, specialising in Cocktail/Lounge and Cabaret; and the amazing Philip Everall on bass clarinet.
