Four concerts of classical guitar music were the feature events in 1998. Canadian virtuoso Rèmi Boucher gave a superb concert in March and, in addition, made a valuable contribution in classes for local players. More about Rèmi Boucher |
The Society sponsored a concert by Jonathon Paget in July whilst he was here on vacation from his higher music studies in the USA. The big crowd he drew showed their appreciation of his fine playing and deep commitment to the music. |
Local performers gave two concerts. President of the Society in September showed his depth of understanding and interpretation of the beatiful music of Manuel Ponce. |
The final 1998 concert was by the talented local partners Ruth and Richard Lenz. Their concert demonstrated excellent co-ordination and musicianship enabled them to present a wide range of seletions at the highest level. This year's programme included a lecture/recital by Richard Charlton a contemporary Australian composer who has written some notable works for guitar. Charlton was also adjudicator at the Ensemble Festival. More about Richard Charlton |
Three Forums were run by the Society Director, Kevin Fraser. He was also responsible for the very successful Ensemble Festival held in August. In 1998 the Festival becams national and in 1999 it will achieve the credentials to be called international. |

KARIN SCHAUPP + 2 Concerts This guitarist from Brisbane has established herself as an international class performer. She played in Perth twice in 1998; a solo concert in June and in October as special guest star in the Michael Crawford show. |
