CGSoc Herdsman 2019Classical Guitar Society orchestra present an afternoon of beautiful music for both solo guitar and orchestra. Music featured is mostly by Australian composers, including Darcey's compositions from her latest CD, music by award winning composer Azariah Felton, the ever popular Paul Svoboda and Rory O'Donaghue. Some well-known and loved popular songs will also be included.

And a cameo performance from a Portuguese Fado group.

Ciampa has been won multiple international competitions of note, including the "Tokyo International Guitar Competition"[Japan], "Coria Guitar Competition" [Spain], "Budapest International Guitar Competition" [Hungary],"Omis International Guitar Competition"[Croazia], ,"Michele Pittaluga International Guitar Competition", and International Competition "Fernando Sor"[Italy]. 31st WA CLASSICAL GUITAR ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL - 2019

This event is run in partnership with the WA Classical Guitar Society which was founded in 1960 to provide a vehicle for professional development, forums and master classes, a platform for performances of local, interstate and over seas artists, and the general promotion of the classical guitar throughout Western Australia.

The 2019 adjudicator will be Polish-American guitarist virtuoso Paul Cesarczyk, currently based at Mahidol University, Thailand.

The aims of the Festival are:-
  • To provide a performance opportunity for students (especially young students).
  • To give ensembles an opportunity to hear others perform.
  • To provide each ensemble with constructive comments from an informed adjudicator.
  • To present each ensemble with a certificate which recognises its participation.
No other event in WA involves the participation of any where near the number of guitarists who go in the Festival.

Paul Cesarczyk: Guitar Artistry Paul CesarczykPolish-born American classical guitarist Paul Cesarczyk made his New York City debut at Carnegie Hall at the age of 17. Since then, he has built an international reputation as an exceptional soloist and brillant teacher at Mahidol University in Thailand. In this concert of classical guitar artistry, Cesarzyck performs solo and is joined by WAAPA's own Jonathan Paget for duets on 19th century guitars.

Australian Baroque is committed to providing historically-informed music of the highest standard, whilst bringing a vibrant, fresh and innovative approach to all its endeavours. Fairbridge Festival 2019
Fairbridge Festival is Western Australia's most popular family camping festival. This friendly celebration of folk, roots, blues, acoustic, Celtic, a capella and world music takes place annually in April, in the traffic-free, self-contained bushland site of Fairbridge Village on the South West Highway, 5km north of Pinjarra and 100km south of Perth's outlying south-eastern suburbs.

The Early Years
Sassafras-Quartet
Formed in mid 2015, Sassafras has quickly established a reputation as one of Perth's premier gypsy jazz groups. Perhaps best known for their work with the quintet version of the group ("Sassafras" - featuring vocalist Jessie Gordon), the four instrumentalists have also been steadily developing their sound as a tight-knit and energetic instrumental group: Sassafras Quartet. Joining Sassafras Quartet for this special occasion, is talented Irish violinist Charlie McCarthy. A former resident of Perth, Charlie formed the gypsy jazz group "Belleville" (with guitarist Lachlan Gear) which performed at numerous venues in and around Perth over a number of years. Bassist Pete Jeavons joined the group later too, so this concert will be a fitting musical reunion for Charlie, Lachlan and Pete. 7pm Wed

Fresh from another successful run of shows at the Perth Fringeworld Festival ("Under Paris Skies"), Perth's premier gypsy jazz group Sassafras is back at The Duke of George.
Featuring Jessie Gordon (voice), Adrian Galante (clarinet), Lachlan Gear & Aaron Deacon (guitars) and Pete Jeavons (bass), Sassafras combines toe-tapping swing, breakneck gypsy classics, wistful french ballads and re-worked jazz standards in a vibrant and engaging mix of acoustic music, all performed with the dazzling virtuosity and passion that is intrinsic to the gypsy jazz tradition.

Well known classical guitarist, music teacher and composer, Jane Darcey is pleased to announce the launch of his most recent CD recording, "All shall be well", showcasing her musical artistry and performance talent. An accomplished soloist and collaborator with other classical musicians in Perth and throughout the South-West, Jane has also given concerts in Adelaide and Sydney. She believes in an eclectic approach to life and music. Her composition style is based on tonality, with modal, jazz and impressionistic influences.

West Australian Mandolin Orchestra (est. 1976) will hold a 4 day Summer School for players of classical guitar and mandolin in January, 2019

  • ensemble playing - both in small groups and larger ensembles
  • workshops- practice technique, conducting
  • introductory workshops for new players - for players with little or no previous experience
  • All workshops will be given under professional guidance and some instruments are available on request.
  • Daily sessions run from 10am - 4pm with morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea provided.
  • Please register ASAP to ensure a place at the Workshop.
