Performed by: Jonathan Paget (guitar solo), Plectra Guitar Ensemble [WAAPA students] WAAPA guitarists are excited re their upcoming Margaret River (Strings Attached Festival) and present their concert to Perth audiences in this pre-tour event. Plectra performs an inspirational selection of Australian ensemble landscapes by Seaborn, Davidson, and Svoboda, alongside solos (Wilbur Grantham) and duos (Jane Darcey and Iain Parker). In addition, renowned WAAPA maestro Jonathan Paget performs a short solo program of dynamic Latin American works by Garoto, Brouwer, and Barrios.

19th Century Opera and Song Music Directors Jonathan Paget and Emma Matthews Performed by Guitar and Classical Voice students What lovelier combination of instruments could there possibly be than the human voice and the intimate tones of the guitar? Correcting modern misconceptions, this concert demonstrates that piano was not the only instrument for song accompaniment, 'art-song' was for everyone, and opera melodies had a long 'afterlife' in an explosion of instrumental derivatives. Join us in an exploration of the 'alternative history' of 19th century song featuring music by Schubert, Rossini, Bellini, and much more. 3pm Sun |

Adrian Galante - clarinet Lachlan Gear - guitar Aaron Deacon - guitar Pete Jeavons - bass Lucky Oceans - pedal steel & vocals Formed in mid 2015, Sassafras has now established a reputation as one of Perth's premier gypsy jazz groups. Perhaps best known for their work with the quintet version of the group ("Sassafras" - featuring vocalist Jessie Gordon), the four instrumentalists have also been steadily developing their sound as a tight-knit and energetic instrumental group: Sassafras Quartet. Joining Sassafras Quartet for this special occasion, is non other than Grammy-award-winning, world renown pedal steel player Lucky Oceans. Lucky's pedal steel, and voice, brings western swing & country sounds to the party which are the perfect foil for the gypsy jazz of Sassafras Quartet. Expect repertoire from Django Reinhardt, Hank Williams, George Benson, Jimmy Bryant and many more.
