Classical Guitar Fundraising Christmas Concert
WA Guitar Orchestra
at
Herdsman Lake Discovery Centre

WAGO director, Jane Darcey.
Take some time out from the life of competition and acquisition to hear the timeless beauty of the plucked string in the natural environment of Herdsman Lake Discovery Centre. The Western Australian Guitar Orchestra has been playing at the peaceful and beautiful Herdsman Lake at this time of year for several years, only pausing during the pandemic and returning last year, even with social distancing. This year, the Centre has been upgraded and will seat an audience of seventy-two for this recital. The music is, as always, multi-cultural, featuring composers from Germany, France, Italy, Istanbul, Argentina, the United States and Australia. We will be playing movements from Haydn's charming String Quartet No. 2 and Richard Charlton's beautiful, exciting, and expressive depictions of diamonds, sapphires, rubies, and emeralds in two movements from Stoneworks, which was awarded the 2004 Instrumental Work of the Year at the APRA/AMC Classical Music Awards. WAGO will also be playing music by Astor Piazzolla, Gilbert Biberian, and Georges Bizet. WAAPA and UWA undergraduate students, Wilbur Grantham and Joscelyn Leahy, who are both members of WAGO, are our solo performers, playing music by Roland Dyens, Guilio Regondi, and Gary Ryens. The concert will finish with Sting's Fields of Gold and a Fantasy on Two French Carols. A light supper will be included, courtesy of the Orchestra members, and sales of tea and coffee will be available from the Centre.

Classical Guitar Forums - Classical Guitar Society of WA

Classical Guitar Forums
It's on again! The Guitar Performers Meeting was previously named the Solo Classical Guitar Forum and now includes duet and trio performances. It is aimed at giving adult classical guitar an opportunity to play for a small audience in a welcoming, supportive and relaxed environment. The audience consists of fellow guitar players, friends and some invited guests. Each player is welcome to bring a friend.
Two experienced Society guitarists; Graham and Sarah will host and manage the evening during which the 'easier' compositions will be performed first. It is natural that there will be a range of experience among the players. There is a small cost to cover hall hire, supper etc. Society membership is not required.

Classical Guitar Society of WA's
training orchestra program and instrumental workshops for 2023
We are pleased to announce the start of the Classical Guitar Society of WA's training orchestra program and instrumental workshops for 2023.
Convenor and rehearsal director for these occasions is teacher and former WAAPA lecturer Peter Altmeier-Mort.
These activities will be held on a regular basis and are particularly intended for keen amateurs, beginner to intermediate level, who may have no ensemble or group performance experience at all, and who would enjoy meeting, playing, and socialising with other guitarists.
Open to any public, attendees are welcome to participate as a player or observer at any time. For the first rehearsal (date below) some easy and fun material to play will be handed out on the day, so just bring your guitar and foot-rest (music stands are provided). Tea and coffee facilities are also available.
